For half a century, the equipment of the shoemaker workshop of Karl Nachbauer (grandfather of the Schubertiade’s managing director Gerd Nachbauer) had been stowed away. Now it is on display in a small shoemaker museum, which takes up two rooms at Marktstraße 15. Tools, hardware, sewing machines, dozens of wood strips for all shoe sizes and the necessary raw materials remind the visitors of a trade that has almost completely disappeared, and a time when it was common to craft all pairs of shoes individually. Documents and items in the family's possession illustrate the far-reaching changes and developments which have occurred during Karl Nachbauer's lifetime. Only one thing has always stayed the same: the shoemaker workshop.
